Biographical Information

"Texas Bill Yohe, the Nationals former utility third baseman, who came here during the fag end of last season and played a few games at third base, has been chosen captain of the Kansas City team of the American Association and the papers in that town are cracking him up to the skies."- from the Washington Herald, April 25, 1910

Bill Yohe played in the majors for less than a month, but appeared in 21 games (mostly at third base) with 78 at-bats in that period. Wid Conroy was the regular third baseman that year for the 1909 Washington Senators, but a spot on the team opened up when they traded Jim Delahanty to the 1909 Detroit Tigers (who went to the 1909 World Series that year, with Delahany hitting well), and Conroy could play second base.

Yohe, who was 30 in 1909, had been in the Texas League earlier in the year.

Bill was born in Illinois, went to high school in Hawaii, and died in Washington. He was apparently a very popular guy, and was captain of more than one team for whom he played.

Yohe managed the Waco Navigators for part of 1908.

The SABR biography of Fred McMullin says that Joe McGinnity, managing Tacoma in 1914, released captain Yohe in mi-season 1914 in favor of McMullin.
