Biographical Information[edit]

Wid Conroy was a versatile defender and stolen base threat, playing regularly for almost the entirety of his eleven-season big league career. He was the last man on the original Milwaukee Brewers roster in 1901, becoming a fixture at shortstop before jumping to the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1902. When he came back to the AL with the spanking-new New York Highlanders in 1903, he was now a third baseman, tying a career high with 74 runs scored. He led the junior circuit in total chances twice while finishing second in stolen bases to the great Ty Cobb in 1907. He finished his career with three seasons on the Washington Senators, establishing a big league record in the waning days of his final season by handling thirteen chances at the hot corner in a loss to the Cleveland Naps on September 25, 1911.

Conroy later managed the Elmira Colonels from 1913-1916 and two Western League offerings in 1917. He was a Philadelphia Phillies coach in 1922, his final season in baseball.
