Biographical Information[edit]

After pitching for the Spokane Indians in 1904, Bill Hogg joined the New York Highlanders and was primarily a member of the team's starting rotation for four years, from 1905 to 1908. He spent 1909 with the Louisville Colonels of the American Association. After the season, he went on a barnstorming tour. He fell ill in New Orleans, LA and died of Bright's Disease at age 28.

Bill won 33 games in the minors in 1904. With the Highlanders in 1906, he had almost the same ERA as teammate Jack Chesbro. He won a tremendous game on September 23rd, facing the Chicago White Sox. He out-duelled future Hall of Famer Ed Walsh to win, 1-0, and put New York in first place. However, the Highlanders were unable to stay there, being swept by the Detroit Tigers in their next series as Chicago won the pennant by winning 10 of their last 11 games.

Wikipedia (03-26-20) says that Ty Cobb's biography by Al Stump states Cobb and Hogg were almost traded for each other.
