(Redirected from 1908 Highlanders)
The 1908 New York Highlanders finished in 8th place in the American League with a record of 51-103-1. New York was managed by Hall of Fame pitcher Clark Griffith at the start of the season, with Kid Elberfeld taking over in mid-year. Games were played at Hilltop Park.
By now the alternate and equally unofficial nickname "Yankees" was being used frequently. The New York Times article about Cy Young's no-hitter on June 30th, at "the American League Park" (Hilltop Park's formal name), referred to the club exclusively as "Yankees" throughout the article. Other newspapers continued to use the two nicknames interchangeably.
