Biographical information[edit]

Bill Beverly was a Negro League pitcher for a few years. He is the son of Charlie Beverly.

Beverly started off with his hometown Houston Eagles in 1950, going 5-1 with a 4.63 ERA. He split 1951 between the New Orleans Eagles and Chicago American Giants. He was with Chicago in 1952, but missed time due to military service. In the 1952 East-West Game, he relieved Stony Jackson in the 7th with a 7-2 West lead. He allowed one run, two hits and a walk in three innings, while striking out one to get the save; at the plate, he was 0 for 1. Beverly's run allowed came in the 8th when Doc Dennis singled and advanced on a Larry Raines error. Henry Kimbro walked, then Don Whittington hit into a run-scoring double play. Beverly pitched in Canada in 1953, then ended his career with the 1954-1955 Birmingham Black Barons.
