Biographical Information[edit]
Donald Lee Whittington played second and third base in the dying days of the Negro Leagues.
Whittington was a 18-year-old high schooler when the Philadelphia Stars made him their starter in 1952, following the loss to Major League Baseball of 1951 starter Milt Smith and 1950 starter Charlie White. Don would follow those two in being picked for the East-West Game, but would not get into Organized Baseball like White or Smith, both of whom would make it to the majors.
Whittington hit 6th for the East squad in the 1952 East-West Game and went 0 for 3 with an error in a 7-3 loss. He spent his last two years, 1953 and 1954, in the Negro American League with the Memphis Red Sox.
