Biographical Information[edit]

Scout Arthur Irwin helps Daniels with his stance, about 1911

Bert Daniels played five years in the majors during the deadball era, with good dead-ball skills. He had decent range in the outfield, stole a lot of bases, drew walks well, and was expert in getting hit by the pitch.

He led the league three times in hit-by-pitch, and stole 41 bases as a rookie. His highest on-base percentage was .374 for the New York Highlanders in 1911, although his .356 OBP in 1910 was more impressive because it was nearly 50 points above the league average that year.

In one game in 1913 he batted leadoff and was hit by the pitch three times.

Daniels managed the St. Joseph Saints of the Western League in 1918. At the time the league suspended its operations in early July, the team had a 30-38 record and was in 7th place. He coached Manhattan College from 1931-1938.
