Biographical Information

The brother of Harvey Haddix and Fred Haddix, Ben Haddix caught for four years in the minor leagues. While Fred threw left-handed and batted right-handed, Ben was the reverse on both fronts.

In 1942, Ben debuted with the Springfield Cardinals, hitting .259 with 5 RBI. Five years later, he returned in the same city, now with the Springfield Giants. He hit .288 with 4 HR and 76 RBI.

In 1948, Haddix spent his only year outside of Springfield in pro ball. He batted .224 with 2 HR and 23 RBI for the Quebec Alouettes and .256 with one homer and 17 RBI for the Knoxville Smokies.

Ben batted .342/~.382/.473 for Springfield in 1949, finishing second in the Ohio-Indiana League in batting average behind teammate Ralph Lucas. In 1950, Haddix hit .307/~.334/.413 with 99 RBI. He led the league's regular catchers in fielding percentage (.984), assists (117) and double plays (20).
