In 1941 and 1942, Ohio's Springfield hosted a Class C Middle Atlantic League club called the Springfield Cardinals that was affiliated with and nicknamed after the parent St. Louis Cardinals. The team was managed by future Brooklyn and Los Angeles Dodgers legend Walter Alston.
