Biographical Information[edit]

Outfielder Ralph Lucas played in the minor leagues from 1947 to 1952. He was a high-average hitter, finishing with a career .320 batting mark. He began his career in the New York Giants system.

In his first campaign, he batted .354 with 119 hits in 88 games for the Oshkosh Giants. With the Fort Smith Giants the next year, he batted .356 and in 1949, he hit .347 with 103 RBI (despite just six home runs) for the Springfield Giants. He led the Ohio-Indiana League in average, .005 ahead of Ben Haddix. After a down year in 1950, Lucas batted .331 for the Knoxville Smokies in 1951. After a year in the Cincinnati Reds organization, 1952, his career was over.

Not a power hitter, Lucas had just 16 home runs in 2,610 at-bats. In 670 games, he had 834 hits.

His son, Mark Lucas, was an Atlanta Braves minor leaguer in the 1970s and 1980s.

He later coached numerous youth baseball teams as well as a high school state bowling champion team.
