Bates College has sponsored baseball since 1872. Harry Lord, with over 3,500 major league at-bats, is one of three players who attended Bates to come to the majors. Bobby Messenger and Charlie Small are the other ones. Sam Nader played one season for the team. John Henry Williams tried out for the baseball team, but was cut.
