Truist Stadium in Winston-Salem, NC, is the home of the Winston-Salem Dash, the Chicago White Sox' High-A South Atlantic League farm team. Wake Forest University acquired Ernie Shore Field, the Carolina League franchise's home since 1956, but leased it back to the Dash when the new park was delayed into 2010.

Shortly before the new ballpark finally opened, locally based BB&T Bank bought naming rights. BB&T Ballpark became Truist Stadium after BB&T and SunTrust banks merged to form Truist Bank in 2019.

The ballpark has faced other financial issues since and now, along with many others, is facing another possible crisis. MLB's 2021 Minor League Reorganization, which was seen as a threat to the Dash, ultimately left the team in place but also enacted new facility standards that must be met upon pain of losing the team anyway. Most of the $5 million tab will fall on the city, which is planning to comply using limited obligation bonds.[1]

Neither Truist nor Shore appeared in Bull Durham (1988), but their home team did: the then-Winston-Salem Spirits appeared as one of the Bulls' opponents.

Former big-league pitcher and Forsyth County Sheriff Ernie Shore once made history with then-pitcher Babe Ruth: he replaced Ruth, who had been ejected for arguing a lead-off walk, and - after the runner was thrown out stealing - fired the rest of a perfect game. Whether it was such was debated for years; MLB's official position now is that it was a combined no-hitter but not a perfecto.
