Biographical Information[edit]
Atsushi Otsu represented Japan in the 1954 Asian Championship. He was signed by the Osaka Tigers in 1956, and soon became a starting outfielder[1]. He was selected into the 1956 NPB All-Star Game as a rookie, but went 0-for-2.[2] Otsu ended up hitting .247/.281/.340 with 3 homers in his rookie year. Otsu improved to .262/.299/.366 with 8 homers in 1957, and ranked 8th in batting average in the Central League (.071 behind Wally Yonamine). The Akashi native still hit .251/.288/.334 in 1958, and attended the All-Star Game again. He went 0-for-1 in those games.[3] Otsu recorded a .238/.292/.315 batting line in 1959, then slumped to .209/.248/.269 in 1960. He batted .257/.301/.371 in 1961, then announced his retirement after the 1961 season.[4]
Overall, Otsu had hit .246/.286/.334 with 24 home runs in 6 seasons in NPB.
