Biographical Information[edit]

Armando Ruiz has pitched in the minors and for the Nicaraguan national team.

Ruiz was 7-2 with a 2.15 ERA as a high school senior. He was 0-2 with a 4.97 ERA in 22 games as a freshman in college, then improved to 3-2 with 3 saves and a 2.70 ERA as a sophomore. His junior year, he fell to 1-2, 2 Sv, 3.80 then was 1-1 with 7 saves and a 3.63 ERA as a senior. He struck out 39 in 22 1/3 IP and allowed a .220 average. [1]

The Oakland Athletics took him in the 29th round of the 2015 amateur draft; the scout was Kelcey Mucker. [2] He was 1-0 with a 4.32 ERA for the AZL Athletics that summer. For the 2016 Beloit Snappers, he went 3-4 with 3 saves and a 3.46 ERA. He was 3-1 with two saves and a 4.87 ERA for the Stockton Ports the next year.

Being of Nicaraguan descent, he played for Nicaragua in the 2017 Central American Games. In his first game, he relieved Pedro Torres with a 10-8 lead in the 9th against Guatemala and struck out two in a shutout inning for the save. He also was called on to close against rival Panama, replacing Jorge Bucardo with a 2-0 lead in the 9th. He only retired one while allowing hits to Edgar Muñoz, Eduardo Thomas Jr. and Gerald Chin to make it 2-1; Wilber Bucardo replaced him and closed it out. Nicaragua would win Gold. [3]
