Biographical Information[edit]

Pedto Torres has pitched for the Nicaraguan national team.

Born in Costa Rica to a Nicaraguan father and Panamanian mother, he went to high school in Peru and played for the Gigantes de Rivas in Nicaragua. [1] He was 1-1 with a 4.91 ERA in the Nicaraguan amateur league in 2013, 1-0 with 5 runs in 5 innings in 2014 and allowed 4 walks and 3 runs in one inning in 2015. In 2016, he stepped it up, going 10-8 with a 3.25 ERA. [2]

Torres pitched for Nicaragua when they won the 2017 Central American Games, appearing twice. With two outs in the 8th inning against Guatemala, he relieved Wilber Bucardo and allowed one hit and got one out in a 10-8 win; Armando Ruiz relieved in the 9th. Against Costa Rica, he relieved Osman Gutiérrez with 2 outs in the 7th and a 8-4 lead. He did very well, allowing one hit and one walk in 2 1/3 IP while whiffing five to save the game for Junior Téllez. He struck out his brother, Iván Torres, who was playing for their birthland. [3] It was not the first time two brothers had played on opposite teams in the same tournament, though it is quite rare. In the 2009 Baseball World Cup, Kenley Jansen pitched for the Netherlands while Ardley Jansen played for the Netherlands Antilles. Also in that event, Didi Gregorius was on the Netherlands while both his brother (Johnny Gregorius) and father (Didi Gregorius Sr.) were on the Netherlands Antilles.
