Team History[edit]

The Alijadores de Tampico were early members of the Mexican League. A very good team in the 1940s, they won titles in 1945 and 1946. From 1949 through 1966, Tampico was absent a team in the Liga. The Lightermen returned in 1971 and lasted through 1979, winning another pennant in 1975. Another team played in Tampico from 1983 to 1985. The team was also known as the tampico Stevedores in 1971-1972 and Tampico Astros in 1983-1984. Since 1985, however, the former Mexican League powerhouse city has not been home to any Liga team.
