Biographical Information[edit]
Alfredo Lopez has played in the minors and for the Mexican national team.
Lopez was drafted by the Florida Marlins in the 20th round of the 2010 Amateur Draft; the scout was Tim McDonnell. [1] The utility infielder hit .222/.300/.222 for the GCL Marlins and .250/.400/.250 for the Jamestown Jammers that summer while also going 7-for-16 for the Jupiter Hammerheads. He hit .317/.391/.366 in 24 games for the Hammerheads in 2011 while having a .244/.306/.244 batting line in Jamestown. Lopez then hit .280/.374/.363 in Jupiter, and he played 25 games for the Jacksonville Suns with a .231/.333/.231 batting line in 2012. He also reached AAA in the '12 season, and he was 1-for-9 with the New Orleans Zephyrs.
The Californian struggled with the Greensboro Grasshoppers in 2013 as his batting line was .216/.270/.275, and he hit .297/.378/.359 for the Hammerheads. Lopez then batted .216/.298/.263 with the '14 Suns, and the Marlins released him. He represented Mexico in the 2015 Premier 12; the team brought in lots of Mexican-Americans due to a dispute between the Mexican League and the Mexican baseball federation. Lopez was 1-for-3, with a single against Yudai Ono of Japan, and he went 0-for-1 against the USA. He was the pinch-runner for Tim Torres against the Dominican Republic, and he went 0-for-4 versus Canada. He collected a single against Seth Simmons of the USA in 4 at-bats in the semifinal, and Mexico lost to Japan in the Bronze Medal Game. [2]
Lopez hit .281/.341/.331 in 63 games for the Tigres de Quintana Roo in 2016, and his batting line was .263/.317/.316 with the Olmecas de Tabasco in 2017. The Mexican League went to a two-season format for 2018. He went 4-for-14 for the Acereros de Monclova in the spring, and he improved to .364/.364/.409 in 13 games in the autumn. Lopez improved to .338/.452/.481 as a solid bench player for the Acereros in 2019, but he slumped to .188/.278/.188 in 18 plate appearances in 2021 after the coronavirus shut down the minor leagues, causing him to miss 2020. He had a solid .404/.481/.522 batting line with 84 runs in 82 games for the Generales de Durango in 2022, becoming a regular for the first time, 11 years after his pro debut. He was 5th in runs, between Aneury Tavárez and batting champ Henry Urrutia; he was among the leaders in average. His 8 triples were second, two shy of Fernando Villegas Jr. He batted .226/.356/.250 for the Tomateros de Culiacan in the winter. Lopez extended his solid performance in 2023 as his batting line was .321/.386/.400 (and with his first 20-steal season, at age 33), but he slumped to .268/.333/.339 in 2024.
Through 2024, he has played every position except catcher during his pro career.
