Biographical Information[edit]
Tim McDonnell has been a minor league infielder, college assistant coach and scout.
McDonnell signed with the Sioux City Explorers out of college and went 5 for 28 with five walks for them in 1993. With the '95 Johnstown Steal, he hit .314/.438/.467 in 32 games. Returning to Johnstown in 1996, he batted .329/.398/.461 with 18 doubles. The third baseman was 8th in the Frontier League in average and tied for 6th in doubles. He played for the 1997 Grays Harbor Gulls, hitting .264/.345/.344. In 1998, he split time between the Reno Chukars and Mission Viejo Vigilantes, with a combined batting line of .258/.361/.346. Overall, he had batted .283/.374/.384 in 249 games in the independent leagues, with 133 runs and 114 RBI.
McDonnell later was an assistant coach at California State University, Long Beach and a Florida Marlins scout. For the Marlins, he signed Bryan Berglund, Matt Dominguez, Edgar Olmos, Bryan Petersen, Rob Rasmussen, Giancarlo Stanton and Christian Yelich.
