Mission Viejo Vigilantes

The Mission Viejo Vigilantes are the only professional baseball club in the history of Mission Viejo, CA. Playing at Saddleback College the team debuted in the independent Western Baseball League in 1997 going 39-51. They had former major-leaguer Bret Barberie (.347, 5th in the league), All-Star outfielder Sam V. Taylor (.306, 21 HR, tied for 5th in homers) and Pitcher of the Year Mike J. Smith (10-4, 2.95, second in ERA).

The next season the Vigilantes were 49-41 and again had two All-Stars - Smith (10-6, 3.52) and DH Alan Burke (.305, 23 HR, 92 RBI, .584 slugging, tied for second in homers, third in RBI and 5th in slugging).

The club disbanded after the '98 campaign.
