2024-2025 Australian Baseball League
(Redirected from 2024-2025 ABL)
The 2024-2025 Australian Baseball League was the fourteenth season in the second incarnation of the Australian Baseball League.
The Canberra Cavalry were unlikely titlists. Finishing 12-27 the prior year, they had a losing record and made the playoffs on the last day of the season. They then swept the regular-season champion Sydney Blue Sox in the first round (interestingly, Sydney was the only team worse than Canberra last year) and swept the Perth Heat in the finals. In Game 1, the teams combined for a championship series record 18 runs in a 10-8 Canberra victory, Jack Mahoney beating Dariel Fregio with Jon Kennedy notching the save. Ray Zuberer, Miles Simington and George Callil each had three hits for the victors while Tim Kennelly homered twice and had three hits, three runs and three RBI for Perth. In the clincher, playoff MVP Colten Davis throws 8 2/3 shutout innings in a 5-0 win; Simonton hit a two-run homer and drove in three.
While Canberra and Perth met in the championship, most of the league leaders came from other teams. Melbourne's Jarryd Dale led in average (.381) while teammate Greg Bird led with 27 RBI and fellow Ace Aaron Whitefield had the most runs (37) and hits (49). Adelaide's Liam Spence led with 27 walks drawn and James Broadwell tied for the lead in wins (6) with Sydney's Alex Wells. Wells also led in ERA (1.55) while his twin brother, Adelaide's Lachlan Wells, led with 66 strikeouts. Perth's Tyler Beardsley saved 10 games to pace the circuit. Sydney's Jake Mackenzie stole a league-high 15 bases. Brisbane's Hyung-chun Um had the most total bases (78) while teammate Brennon McNair led with 11 homers. The most doubles were 15 by Canberra's Jason Matthews.
