Biographical Information[edit]

Jarryd Dale has played in the minors (as high as AAA) and for the Australian national team. His father is Baseball Australia Hall of Famer Phil Dale [1] and he is the brother of Ryan Dale [2]

Dale hit .206/.217/.279 with the Melbourne Aces in 2016-2017, fielding .951 as their main shortstop (backed up by former major leaguer Brad Harman. The San Diego Padres signed him in July. [3] He represented Australia in the 2017 U-18 Baseball World Cup, hitting .212/.257/.242 and fielding .846. He tied for 8th in the event with four errors. [4] He improved to .265/.312/.388 for the Aces in 2017-2018, moving to second and fielding .965. He played 29 games with a .207/.281/.264 batting line for the AZL Padres 1 in 2018 and also hit .121/.175/.152 in 11 contestd for the AZL Padres 2. Dale slumped to .181/.271/.202 in the winter of 2018-2019, and his batting line was .301/.358/.345 in the AZL in 2019, though he fielded .857 at the hot corner. He then struggled with the Aces in 2019-2020 as his batting line was .196/.237/.250, then the minor league season was wiped out by the COVID-19 pandemic. He bounced back in 2020-2021 and hit .263/.286/.375. He went 3-for-5 with a triple, two runs and two RBI in the finale as the Aces took home the title. [5]

The Melbourne native played 102 games for the Lake Elsinore Storm in 2021, and his batting line was .269/.330/.381 with 31 steals in 39 tries while he played every infield and outfield position. He tied for 4th in the Low-A West in steals; among Padres farmhands, he was 6th, between José Azocar and Eguy Rosario. Dale then struggled in 2022 as his batting line fell to .198/.317/.278 with 27 steals for the Fort Wayne TinCaps (fielding .950 as their primary shortstop), and he also went 6-for-27 for the El Paso Chihuahuas. He was in the top 10 in steals in both the Midwest League and in the San Diego chain (5th, between Corey Rosier and Juan Zabala). He also represented Australia in the 2022 U-23 Baseball World Cup (.269/.345/.308) [6], and he made it onto their roster for the 2023 World Baseball Classic. Dale was 1-for-2 with an infield single, against Atsuki Yuasa of Japan, and he scored once as the pinch-runner for Rixon Wingrove against South Korea. Dale didn't get another at-bat, and Australia were eliminated by Cuba in quarterfinals. [7]

After hitting .265/.300/.379 for the 2022-2023 Aces, he only played 24 games in AAA, split between the ACL Padres, the TinCaps and the El Paso Chihuahuas, hitting a combined .244/.366/.397, missing time due to a back injury. [8] He batted .327/.385/.393 for the 2023-2024 Aces, bouncing around the infield. He split 2024 between Fort Wayne (.269/.345/.346 in 8 G) and the San Antonio Missions (.141/.187/.271 in 33 G) but was released in early August. [9]
