The 2012 International League season was the 126th in the league's history, and ended with the Pawtucket Red Sox winning the Governors' Cup. One unusual occurrence was the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees being forced to play their schedule on the road (with six different "home" parks, all in New York). The New York Yankees had tried to move the team closer to the MLB club, but had been blocked from doing so by the New York Mets.

Justin Wilson of Indianapolis took part in two no-hitters, a combined effort and a 8-inning rain-shortened one. Also of note was a former Indianapolis hurler - 2005 IL Pitcher of the Year Zach Duke - returned after being a MLB All-Star in the interim, and led the league in wins.
