The 2001 World Youth Championship was the 10th edition of the World Youth Championship. Played from August 3 through August 12 in Monterrey, Mexico, it was won by the USA.

Quarterfinals[edit]

  • USA 2, Japan 1; Jeff Flaig hits a 2-run homer in the 7th and strikes out 2 of 3 batters in the 9th for the save and the game-winning RBI
  • South Korea 3, Cuba 2
  • Australia advances
  • Venezuela advances

The two top teams face major scares, with Cuba being eliminated and the USA barely hanging on to move to the semifinals

  • USA 6, Venezuela 2; Andy Beal allows 5 hits and strikes out 14 in the win.
  • Australia defeats South Korea in the Bronze Medal game
