History, Comments, Contributions[edit]

The 1954 Philadelphia Athletics were the last edition of the Athletics to play in Philadelphia, PA; they would be sold to Arnold Johnson after the season and become the Kansas City Athletics in 1955.

The Athletics did not leave Philly with a bang. 1954 was one of the worst seasons in team history, as even in their darkest years, they had never before finished 60 games out of first place.

1954 was the first season in American League history in which two teams finished with 100 or more wins and two finished with 100 or more losses, the Athletics being one of those two.
