History, Comments, Contributions[edit]

The 1935 Brooklyn Eagles marked the only season for the team. Following the year, they merged with the Newark Dodgers to become the Newark Eagles.

The team was in the middle of the pack, just above .500 and 5th in a 8-team league. They were 5th in OPS+ (89) and 6th in ERA+ (94). There was no one standout on offense; key contributors were 1B-Mgr George Giles (.341/.396/.497, 124 OPS+, 38 R in 44 G), 2B Harry Williams (.340/.394/.490, 122 OPS+, 49 R in 50 G), RF Ed Stone (.324/.409/.434, 113 OPS+) and CF Clarence Griffin (.291/.396/.419, 106 OPS+). LF Fats Jenkins (.320/.374/.412, 98 OPS+) scored 41 runs in 48 games. Other regulars were C Clarence Palm (.285/.340/.423, 91 OPS+), 3B Javier Pérez (.306/.339/.389, 83 OPS+) and SS Bill Yancey (.207/.285/.252, 37 OPS+). Regular backups were UT Tex Burnett (.282/.396/.318, 82 OPS+), RF Crush Holloway (.205/.275/.356, 58 OPS+), SS Bill Sadler (.333/.351/.417, 93 OPS+), 2B Dennis Gilchrist (.333/.433/.392, 110 OPS+) and CF Rap Dixon (.296/.397/.426, 108 OPS+, 14 R in 15 G). The team got strong defense from the infield, with Williams at .961 at 2B (league average .938) and Pérez .979 at 3B (league average .922).

On the hill, the main moundsmen were Will Jackman (7-9, 5.77, 86 ERA+, the league leader in several negative counting stats) and Leon Day (7-4, 2 Sv, 4.34, 115 ERA+). Elbert Williams (4-6, 5.93, 84 ERA+), Double Duty Radcliffe (4-4, 5.77, 86 ERA+) and Otis Starks (3-3, 4.95, 101 ERA+) also pitched at least five games. Terris McDuffie (2-1, 2.78, 179 ERA+) would go on to big things for the Eagles after their move to Newark.
