Newark Dodgers

Formed in 1933, the Newark Dodgers went 12-9 against other top black teams that year. A year later they joined the Negro National League and 18-15 under Dick Lundy's management. 3B Ray Dandridge (.408) and OF Bert Johnson (.429) were the top two contact hitters in the NNL that season and OF Buddy Burbage (.220) was tied for third with 4 triples. The next season they finished last at 17-33, though Dandridge hit .340 and led the NNL with 9 triples. After the 1935 season, Abe Manley bought the team and merged it with the Brooklyn Eagles to form the Newark Eagles.
