In 1926 the Newark Stars became the first major Negro League team to be based in Newark, NJ. The Stars played in the Eastern Colored League and went 1-10 before folding. Managed by Andy Harris, the team had several players who had been or would be productive players in black baseball including 2B Tubby Scales (.286), SS Dick Seay (.160) and OF Charlie Mason (.250).
The Stars played their home games at Newark Schools Stadium.
