Biographical Information[edit]

Zenzo Ikeda pitched in Nippon Pro Baseball for 8 years.

Ikeda was signed by the Taiyo Robins in 1947, and he was 7-15 with a 3.31 ERA in his rookie year. He led the JPBL with 164 walks and 10 hit-by-pitches. Ikeda then jumped to the Kinsei Stars in 1948, and he had a 11-13 record with a 2.74 ERA. He was 5th in walks, between Yoshio Tenbo and Juzo Sanada. Ikeda led the league in walks again in 1949, and he had a 11-17 record with a 4.35 ERA this time. He ranked 4th in losses, tied with Shisho Takesue and Victor Starffin. Ikeda was 8-4 with a 3.80 ERA in 1950, but his ERA rose to 8.64 in 7 games in 1951 then he was released. The Hankyu Braves signed him, and he had a 5-6 record with a 4.23 ERA in 1952. He went 4-9 with a 3.02 ERA in 1953, but he only pitched 9 games in 1954 then he retired. He coached the Komazawa University in 1955, and he also led the Onomichi Shogyo High School to the final of the 1964 and 1968 Spring Koshien.

Overall, Ikeda was 46-68 with a 3.72 ERA, struck out 384 and pitched 1,021 2/3 innings in 8 years in NPB.
