Yuichi Tabataa is an infielder.
He played for Japan in the 2004 World University Championship, when they won the Silver Medal. After college, he played for Honda in the industrial leagues. He was with the Japanese national team for the 2005 Asian Championship (Gold Medal) and 2010 Asian Games (Bronze Medal). In the 2011 Baseball World Cup, he was Japan's starting third baseman, hitting .250/.357/.292 with four runs and three RBI in seven games, with 5 putouts and 12 assists.
In the 2012 Asian Championship, he helped Japan to another Gold, which they also won with him in the 2013 East Asian Games. He made the Industrial League Best Nine in 2013, picked as the top third baseman. In the 2014 Asian Games, the veteran was 6 for 10 with 6 walks, 3 doubles, 7 runs and two RBI in four games; he had one putout, 8 assists and no errors. He led the Bronze Medalists in runs, average and OBP. Only Byung-ho Park and Byung-hun Min of South Korea scored more runs (they both had 8) in the event.
Tabata again started at the hot corner for Japan in the 2015 Asian Championship, when they finished 3rd. Hitting third each game, was 5 for 16 with a double, hit-by-pitch, walk, five runs and three RBI with five error-free chances. He tied Masanobu Tanaka for the team lead in runs.
