Biographical Information[edit]

Yu-Cheng Liu has played in the CPBL and for the Taiwanese national team.

Liu was drafted by the Uni-President Lions in the third round of the 2020 CPBL Draft. [1] He spent his rookie year in the minor league, and he recorded a 1.61 ERA in 22 relief outings there. The Lions then promoted him in 2022. Liu had a 4.23 ERA in 41 games in 2022, and he also collected 7 holds. On July 8, he plunked Chia-Jung Liang of the Rakuten Monkeys, and Liang's teammate Chen-Yu Tsai rushed to the hill and knocked down Liu; Tsai was banned for 10 games. [2] Liu was solid in the first half of the 2023 season, but he suffered an elbow injury, so he missed nearly 3 months. He ended up collecting 7 holds with a 4.91 ERA in 26 games in this season.

The Taipei native then made it onto Taiwan's roster for the 2023 Asian Championship. He only had one appearance, relieving Yan-Fong Lai in the 5th inning against Hong Kong. He struck out Hon-Man Ashley Ma, retired Anson Fung but gave up a single to Tsun-Wai Yung. Liu then fanned Cheuk-Kiu Chan to end his work; the game ended after five due to the mercy rule. Taiwan was beaten by Japan and won Silver in the event.[3]
