Biographical Information[edit]

Young-seop Bae made his professional debut in 2010.

Bae hit .406/.474/.500 in the 2006 Intercontinental Cup, with 11 RBI in 9 games. He was second in the tournament in RBI, trailing only Cuba's Yoandry Urgellés; he also tied for third with two steals (behind Paul Rutgers and Kei Nomoto). He failed to make the All-Tournament team as all three outfield slots went to Cubans - Frederich Cepeda, Giorvis Duvergel and Urgellés. He fared far worse in the 2008 World University Championship, going 4 for 24 (all singles) with two walks, 3 runs and 3 RBI.

Bae was drafted by the Samsung Lions but missed all of 2009 with a shoulder injury. In 2010, he was 7 for 24 with a steal and two doubles in 11 games. He became a starting outfielder in 2011 and hit .294/.363/.356 with 33 steals in 41 tries. He was third in the league in swipes behind Jae-won Oh and Dae-hyung Lee. In the 2011 Korean Series, Bae's 2-run single off Hee-soo Park in the 6th drove in all of Samsung's runs in a game 2 victory. Samsung won the title. At season's end, Bae was named KBO Rookie of the Year, getting 65 of 91 votes; Chan-kyu Lim had the other 26.
