Biographical Information[edit]

Yasushi Kamiuchi pitched in Nippon Pro Baseball for 9 years.

Kamiuchi was drafted by the Daiei Hawks in the 4th round of the 2001 NPB draft, and he pitched 12 games with a 5.84 ERA in 2004 after staying in the NPB Farm Leagues for 2 years. He notched 14 holds with a 3.46 ERA in 26 games in 2005, then he went 6-3 with a 3.22 ERA in 2006. Kamiuchi struck out 11 against the Chunichi Dragons on June 18, and he and Koji Mise, Shintaro Yoshitake, Takayuki Shinohara, Yoshiaki Fujioka and Takahiro Mahara combined to strike out 19 batters. That tied Koji Noda's NPB record for most strikeouts in a game.

The Kyoto native went 1-3 with a 4.76 ERA in 2006, and he missed the next season due to Tommy John surgery. He had a 3.89 ERA in 26 games in 2009, but his ERA rose to 7.02 in 10 games in 2010. Kamiuchi only pitched 2 games in 2011, and his ERA was 5.47 in 20 games in 2012. The Hawks then traded him with Hitoshi Tamura and Teruaki Yoshikawa to the Yokohama BayStars for Yuki Yoshimura, Shogo Yamamoto and Shintaro Ejiri. Kamiuchi had a 8.10 ERA in 5 games in 2013, and he announced his retirement after staying in the minors for the entire 2014 seasons.

Overall, Kamiuchi was 12-12 with a 4.39 ERA, struck out 271 and pitched 282 2/3 innings in 9 seasons in NPB.
