Yoshiaki Fujioka pitched in Nippon Pro Baseball for 15 years.
Fujioka was drafted by the Softbank Hawks in the 3rd round of the 2005 NPB draft, and he pitched 62 games with a 2.60 ERA and 26 holds in his first season. He set the Pacific League record for most games pitched as a rookie, and he was 3rd in appearances (13 behind Hisashi Takeda) and 2nd in holds (14 behind Takeda). However, his ERA rose to 4.38 in 36 games in 2007, and he only pitched 11 games with a 3.38 ERA in 2008. Fujioka was turned into a starter in 2009, and he went 5-8 with a 4.60 ERA. He returned to the bullpen and recorded a 4.50 ERA in 32 games in 2010, and he allowed 9 runs in 8 1/3 innings in 2011.
The Osaka native bounced back in 2012, and he had a solid 1.19 ERA in 39 games. His ERA was 2.51 in 32 games in 2013, and he was sent to the Nippon Ham Fighters as the compensation for the loss of free agent Shinya Tsuruoka. Fujioka only pitched 16 games combined for the big club of the Fighters in 3 seasons, and he was traded to the Yokohama BayStars in the middle of the 2016 season. Fujioka struggled again in 2017 as his ERA was 4.15 in 6 games, and he had a 6.15 ERA in 15 games in 2018. The veteran came back in 2019, and his ERA was 1.86 in 32 games. However, his ERA was 21.60 in 4 games in 2020, and he announced his retirement. He was the minor league pitching coach of the BayStars in 2021.
Fujioka joined the Hinokuni Salamanders of the Kyushu Asia League as a player-coach in 2022, and he went to the independent Kufu Hayate Ventures Shizuoka of the Western League in 2024. He also pitched for the Indios del Bóer of the Nicaraguan Winter League in the winter, and his ERA was 5.40 in 3 games.
Overall, Fujioka was 22-16 with a 3.78 ERA, collected 57 holds in 337 appearances, struck out 342 and pitched 421 innings in 15 seasons in NPB.
