Biographical Information[edit]

Catcher Wil Tejada was signed as a free agent by the Philadelphia Phillies and scout Francisco Acevedo on June 10, 1982. He was then drafted by the Montreal Expos in the minor league portion of the 1985 Rule V Draft and made his debut with the team in September of 1986. He was surpassed on the Expos' depth chart by Nelson Santovenia, who came up in 1987, and only had another brief stint in the majors in 1988 for 8 games. Interestingly, on June 14th that year, he started both games of a doubleheader against the Philadelphia Phillies as both Santovenia and Mike Fitzgerald were on the disabled list and Jeff Reed was temporarily unavailable. He caught all 9 innings of the first game and the first six innings of the second before emergency catcher Dave Engle relieved him. Following that season, he was traded to the San Francisco Giants in return for Angel Escobar, but never played in the majors again.

He managed the 1995 DSL Cardinals/Phillies then was the Philadelphia Phillies Dominican Republic Scouting Supervisor from 1996-2008. He managed the DSL Indians in 2009 and 2010. He was field coordinator for the DSL Indians in 2011-2012, held the same role with the DSL Diamondbacks from 2013-2016 then was catching coach of the DSL Diamondbacks 1 in 2017. He coached the DSL Diamondbacks again in 2021.

His brother, Alex Tejada, played in the minor leagues.
