Víctor Díaz has pitched in the minors, Venezuela and Spain and has been on the Spanish national team.
Díaz was signed by Milwaukee Brewers scout Manny Batista in 2012. [1] He was 0-1 with a 1.90 ERA for the DSL Brewers in 2012. With the same club in 2013, he had a 5-8, 3.34 record. He tied for third in the Dominican Summer League in losses. In '14, he came stateside, going 3-5 with a save and a 4.86 ERA for the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers.
The right-hander was 0-2 with a save and a 2.28 ERA for the Timber Rattlers in 2015 but missed most of the year with Tommy John surgery. [2] When he returned, he had dropped a couple levels, to the AZL Brewers, going 1-2 with a 5.59 ERA. Working his way back to Wisconsin by 2017, he was 2-6 with a 5.81 ERA. In 2018, he was 6-8 with a 4.42 ERA for the Carolina Mudcats to end his time in the Brewers chain. He made his Venezuelan Winter League with the 2019-2020 Tiburones de La Guaira, going 1-1 with a 3.04 ERA. He was 1-0 in the postseason, firing ten shutout innings. [3]
The Guanare native was 2-1 with a 2.89 ERA for La Guaira in 2020-2021 despite more walks (18) than Ks (16). He signed with Spain's Marlins Puerto Cruz for 2021. He was 4-1 with a 2.33 ERA, fanning 38 in 27 innings and allowing only 13 hits. [4] He fell to 0-5, 6.93 for the 2021-2022 Tiburones, with a 2.07 WHIP. He tied Junior Guerra and Logán Durán for second in the VWL in losses, one behind César Jiménez. In the 2022 Confederation Cup, he pitched five shutout innings to beat Olimpija Karlovac and Pavao Karin. [5]
He was 7-1 with a save and a 2.22 ERA when the Marlins won the 2022 Spanish title. He tied Digney Arévalo for sixth in victories and was fifth in ERA. [6] He was on Spain's team in the 2022 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers but did not get into a game (they used 10 of their 14 hurlers). [7]
