Biographical Information[edit]

Ulises Joaquín has pitched as high as AAA.

He was signed by Philadelphia Phillies scout Koby Perez in 2010. [1] He was 4-4 with two saves and a 3.34 ERA for the 2011 DSL Phillies, holding opponents to a .194 average. [2] He came stateside in 2012 and was 1-4 with a 4.14 ERA for the Williamsport Crosscutters, missing time due to an appendectomy. In 2013, he did not appear after a shin injury. [3] Moving to the bullpen in 2014, he appeared for the Clearwater Threshers (2-1, 8 Sv, 3.57) and Lakewood BlueClaws (0-1, 8 Sv, 3.97). His 46 games pitched tied Kyle Simon for 4th in the Phillies chain and he was second in saves, 6 behind Luis Garcia.

The right-hander was a solid closer for the 2015 Threshers (4-2, 16 Sv, 2.95, 12 BB in 55 IP). He tied Todd Van Steensel and Evan Mitchell for 3rd in the Florida State League in pitching appearances (46) and was 4th in saves. In the Philadelphia farm system, he tied Joey DeNato for 5th in games pitched and was 4th in saves. He split 2016 between Clearwater (3-2, 10 Sv, 2.62 in 46 G) and the Reading Fightin Phils (1-0, 9.45 in 6 G). He was second in the Phils chain in games pitched, one shy of Joely Rodríguez.

He was 1-0 with a 1.23 ERA for the Águilas Cibaeñas in the 2016-2017 Dominican Winter League, striking out 28 in 22 IP. Reinforcing the Tigres del Licey for the 2017 Caribbean Series, he did not fare as well (3 H, 2 BB, 2 R in 1 2/3 IP). [4] A free agent, he signed with Mexico's Piratas de Campeche. Moving to the rotation for the first time in 5 years, he did well (5-2, 2.62). He was a reliever that winter for the Águilas (2-1, 3.38). He struggled in the 2018 Caribbean Series (5 H, 2 BB, 2 R in 2 2/3 IP). [5]

Joaquín's second stint with Campeche did not go as well (0-5, 9.19 ERA, 2.01 WHIP) and he was let go in late May. He was then picked for the Dominican national team for the 2018 Central American and Caribbean Games. [6]
