Biographical Information[edit]

Tsuneo Mitomi pitched in Nippon Pro Baseball for 11 years.

Mitomi was signed by the Tsubasa team in 1940, and he was 6-13 with a 2.73 ERA in his rookie year. Tsubasa merged with the Nagoya Kinko club and became the Taiyo team in 1941, and Mitomi improved to 6-9 with a 1.47 ERA. He was 11-9 with a 1.41 ERA in 1942, and he ranked 7th in ERA in the Japanese Professional Baseball League (between Hirotaro Mori and Shigezo Ishihara). He was then enlisted into the military, and he missed four years. Mitomi returned to the league in 1947, and he was 7-16 with a 3.23 ERA. He then went 5-13 with a 3.85 ERA in 1948, then he jumped to the Chunichi Dragons in 1949.

The Tochigi native struggled in 1949, having a 6.00 ERA in 20 appearances. He then recorded a 4.07 ERA in 24 games in 1950, and he improved to 12-7 with a 3.09 ERA in 1951. Mitomi was also selected into the 1951 NPB All-Star Games, and he allowed a solo shot to Junji Nakatani while pitching 2 innings in Game 3. Mitomi was 5-4 with a 3.13 ERA in 1952, but his ERA rose to 5.54 in 13 appearances in 1953. He only pitched one game in 1954, then he announced his retirement.

Overall, Mitomi was 56-78 with a 3.02 ERA, struck out 389 and pitched 1,290 innings in 11 years in NPB.
