Biographical Information[edit]

Shigezo Ishihara pitched in Nippon Pro Baseball for 4 years.

Ishihara was signed by the Tokyo Senators when they were founded in 1936, and he was 4-0 with a 4.03 ERA in the spring season. He went 2-5 with a 3.82 ERA in the fall season, then he was enlisted into the military and missed three years. He returned in 1940 and he had a 6.75 ERA in 5 games, then he jumped to the Taiyo club. Ishihara only pitched one game for Taiyo, and he was sent to the Kurowashi club. He was 5-10 with a 2.92 ERA for the Kurowashi, and he tied Akira Kawamura, Takao Fujimura and Yukio Muramatsu for 10th in losses in the JPBL. He also completed a no-hitter with Miyoshi Nakagawa on June 22. Ishihara broke out in 1942, having a 20-26 record with a 1.26 ERA and leading the league in losses and runs allowed. He was 7th in wins (between Shuichi Hirose and Hirotaro Mori) and 9th in ERA (between Tadashi Wakabayashi and Takao Misono). However, he was enlisted again after the 1942 season, and he passed away in 1946, 3 days after returning to Japan.

Overall, Ishihara was 31-42 with a 2.40 ERA, struck out 181 and pitched 761 innings in 4 years in NPB.
