Biographical Information[edit]

Akira Kawamura pitched in Nippon Pro Baseball for 6 years.

Kawamura was signed by the Nagoya club in 1940, and he was 2-3 with a 2.55 ERA in his rookie year. he improved to 14-10 with a 1.48 ERA in 1941, ranking 8th in wins (between Victor Starffin and Takao Fujimura) and 6th in ERA (between Tadashi Wakabayashi and Hiroshi Nakao). Kawamura then went 7-14 with a 2.22 ERA in 1942, and he led the JPBL with 10 homers. He was enlisted into the military, and he missed the next 5 seasons. Kawamura returned and joined the Kinsei Stars in 1948, and he went 7-7 with a 3.06 ERA. He slumped to 3-6 with a 7.38 ERA in 1949, and he was released. The Nishitetsu Lions picked him up, and Kawamura had a 3-7 record with a 3.83 ERA in 1950. He didn't pitch any games with the big club in 1951, then he announced his retirement.

Overall, Kawamura was 36-47 with a 2.97 ERA, struck out 216 and pitched 801 1/3 innings in 6 years in NPB.
