Biographical Information

Trey Manz has been a minor league catcher.

Manz hit .477 with 12 home runs as a high school senior and .265 as a freshman at Central Alabama. Transferring to Chipola College, he improved to .315 with 9 HR and 50 RBI in 55 games and the school won the 2007 NJCAA Division I Baseball World Series. He then came to South Florida and batted .230/.310/.329 in 2008. In 2009, the senior hit .293/.358/.541 with 15 doubles and 6 home runs. He was second-team All-Big East Conference behind Tobias Streich. The Cincinnati Reds took him in the 26th round of the 2009 amateur draft.

Manz split the summer of 2009 between the GCL Reds (.316/.395/.605, 7 PB in 13 G) and the Billings Mustangs (.306/.333/.510 in 15 G). In 2010, he batted .241/.293/.365 for Billings, backing up both Tucker Barnhart and Chris Berset. He moved to the independent leagues after Cincinnati did not retain his services. In 2011, he hit .280/.370/.393 between the Southern Illinois Miners and Joliet Slammers, though defense remained an issue with 14 passed balls in 36 games behind the plate. He split 2012 between Joliet and the Normal CornBelters but was down to .211/.313/.258 after 46 games.
