Travis Whitmore made his minor league debut in 2011.

Whitmore hit .398 as a high school senior. As a junior college freshman, he hit .310, followed by .390 as a sophomore, when he was all-conference. Transferring to Pitt, he hit .369/.418/.533 with 6 triples, 45 runs and 46 RBI in 54 gamesm while fielding .984 and stealing 11 bases in 13 tries. He was 11th in the Big East Conference in average and one shy of the lead in triples. His senior campaign, 2011, the second baseman fell to .336/.384/.488 and a .960 fielding percentage. Whitmore finished his career at Pitt with 10 triples, third-most in school annals. The San Diego Padres took him in the 35th round of the 2011 amateur draft. He was the fifth of six Pitt Panthers chosen, tying the school record; the others were Kevan Smith, Ray Black, David Chester, John Schultz and Corey Baker.

Whitmore made his pro debut with the Eugene Emeralds on June 18, going 0 for 2 against the Boise Hawks. He had 10 hits in his next 23 at-bats, though, also drawing 6 walks for a .516 OBP after 9 games in the minors.
