Biographical Information

David Chester debuted in the minors in 2011 and played until 2015, reaching AA.

Chester played baseball, basketball and football in high school, making All-Metro in each sport. He hit .349 with 18 home runs as a freshman in junior college at Seminole Community College. He cracked another 18 dingers as a sophomore in 2009, adding 72 RBI and a .370 average. His junior year, David fielded .996 as Pitt's first baseman (following a transfer) and produced at a .332/.428/.615 clip with 15 home runs, 51 runs and 65 RBI in 53 games. He was third-team All-Big East Conference.

The big first baseman had even better numbers (.345/.470/.665, .998 FLD) as a senior in 2011. He hit the first home run at Petersen Sports Complex. He drove in 60 runs and hit 16 home runs in 56 games. He led the Big East in circuit clouts. He was named All-Big East. Despite playing only two years at Pitt, he finished among the school's career leaders in home runs (31, 6th) and RBI (125, 8th). The Boston Red Sox took him in the 33rd round of the 2011 amateur draft. The Panthers had six players selected, tying the school high - Kevan Smith and Ray Black were picked before Chester and John Schultz, Travis Whitmore and Corey Baker were picked after him.

Assigned to the GCL Red Sox, Chester made his pro debut on June 20, going 0 for 3 with two strikeouts against the GCL Rays. After 25 at-bats, he had only two hits (one of them a double), one walk and eight strikeouts while he had one error to one run and no RBI.
