Biographical Information

Outfielder Travis Taijeron began his professional career in the New York Mets system in 2011.

Taijeron hit .400 as both a high school junior and senior. He batted .378 and had a .483 OBP as a freshman at Grossmont College, then spent a year at Southwestern Junior College. Transferring to Cal Poly Pomona, he hit a team-high .345 as a junior and set a school record with 16 home runs. He was second-team All-Conference. He hit another 16 dingers as a senior to finish second in school history in home runs. He was drafted by theNew York Mets in the 18th round of the 2011 amateur draft. The scout was Fred Mazuca.

In his rookie professional season, Taijeron hit .299/.387/.557 with 58 hits and 9 home runs in 56 games for the Brooklyn Cyclones. He was 8th in the New York-Penn League in average, 8th in OBP (between Bryson Myles and Aaron Shipman), led in slugging (37 points ahead of Dean Green), second in OPS (37 points shy of Danny Muno), tied for 6th in triples (5), tied with Seth Schwindenhammer for third in home runs (behind Jeff Malm and Zach Wilson), tied with Green for 5th in RBI and 10th with 108 total bases.

He hit .255/.362/.477 with 19 home runs and 65 RBI in 112 games split between the Savannah Sand Gnats (.291/.401/.548 in 64 G) and St. Lucie Mets (.203/.304/.373 in 48 G) in 2012, finishing third in the Mets chain in circuit clouts, trailing Aderlin Rodriguez and Cory Vaughn. In 2013, he hit .271/.356/.531 with 38 doubles, 23 home runs, 69 RBI and 131 strikeouts in 120 games split between St. Lucie (.303/.396/.564 in 55 G) and the Binghamton Mets (.246/.322/.504 in 65 G). He tied Kevin Plawecki for the most doubles of a Mets farmhand, was second in home runs (3 behind Dustin Lawley), was 9th in RBI (between Muno and Cesar Puello), tied Brandon Nimmo for third in whiffs and tied Wilmer Flores for the best slugging percentage among players with 400+ AB. In 2014, Taijeron batted .248/.357/.476 with 15 home runs and 64 RBI in 101 games for the Binghamton Mets and in 2015, he batted .274/.393/.536 with 25 home runs and 71 RBI in 127 games for the Las Vegas 51s; that was his first taste of Triple A. He returned to Las Vegas for 2016 and hit .275/.372/.512 with 19 home runs and 88 RBI in 129 games. He was a Mid-Season All-Star in 2015 and 2016, a MiLB.com Organization All-Star in 2015 and 2016 and in 2016, he was named the Triple-A All-Star Game Top Star.

Travis made his major league debut for the Mets on August 26, 2017, being called up after a string of injuries devastated the team's outfield crew. On September 8th, he connected for his first major league homer against Amir Garrett of the Cincinnati Reds in a 5-1 win.
