Biographical Information[edit]
First baseman Dean Green began 2012 in A ball.
Amateur Career[edit]
Green hit .505 with 85 RBI as a high school senior, as his team won the class 4A Oklahoma state title. He also played basketball and football all four years in high school and won a state title in football as well. As a college freshman at OSU, he hit .319/.432/.465 as the starting DH. He moved to first base as a sophomore in 2009 and batted only .242/.339/.366. In 2010, he rebounded to .265/.346/.452. He left school, planning to be drafted in the 2010 amateur draft, but did not get picked.
Transferring to Barry University for his senior year, he hit .400 with 19 home runs and 77 RBI. He was named the All-American 1B for NCAA Division II and won the Sunshine State Conference Player of the Year award.
Minors[edit]
Green was selected by the Detroit Tigers in the 11th round of the 2011 amateur draft. He was signed by scout Rolando Casanova for a reported $12,500. He made his pro debut that year with the Connecticut Tigers, hitting .341/.395/.520 with 19 doubles, 7 home runs and 44 RBI in 65 games. He led the New York-Penn League in total bases (128, 2 ahead of runner-up Mason Williams), was second in hits (84, 10 behind Williams) and slugging (behind Travis Taijeron), was third in average (after Danny Muno and Williams), ranked 5th in OBP and tied Taijeron for 5th in RBI.
He then began 2012 with the West Michigan Whitecaps of the Midwest League.
