Biographical Information[edit]

Travis Buckley spent ten years in the minor leagues, pitching from 1989 to 1998. He was drafted by the Texas Rangers in the 24th round of the 1989 amateur draft. He was signed by scouts Doug Gassaway, Jim Dreyer and Michael Grouse.

In his second campaign, with the Gastonia Rangers, he went 12-6 with a 2.84 ERA in 27 games (26 starts). Two years later, after being traded to the Montreal Expos with Jonathan Hurst and Joey Eischen for Oil Can Boyd, he had a 2.87 ERA in 26 starts. On November 9, 1992, he was traded to the Colorado Rockies for minor leaguer Matt Connolly. He then joined the Cincinnati Reds system partway through 1993. On May 24, 1993, he was traded to the Seattle Mariners for minor leaguer Bubba Smith. He reached Triple A for the first time in 1993, but struggled.

Partway through the 1994 campaign, he rejoined the Reds system but never regained the form he showed in the Texas organization. Though he won ten or more games twice (11-11, 4.98 ERA in 1995, 14-11, 4.61 ERA in 1996), he consistently posted higher ERAs and elevated hit and home run allowed totals. On June 1, 1996, he threw a no hitter against the Huntsville Stars, however.

Overall, Buckley was 75-74 with a 4.01 ERA in 234 games (190 starts).
