Biographical Information[edit]
Tom Nichols is currently a play-by-play announcer on the internet, television and radio for the Dayton Dragons.
Nichols graduated from Ball State University in 1986. He got his start in broadcasting as the news director for WLBC AM/FM in Muncie, Indiana. He started his baseball career with the Indianapolis Indians in 1988. He moved on to the Kinston Indians in the Carolina League in 1990. Tom spent the next six seasons broadcasting in the Midwest League - first for the Peoria Chiefs and then the Fort Wayne Wizards. From 1997 to 2004, Nichols broadcasted games for the Mobile BayBears in the Southern League. He earned Broadcaster of the Year honors while in Mobile. From 2005 to 2007, Tom served as the Director of Broadcasting for the Gary SouthShore RailCats. In 2008, he started working for the Dragons.
Besides baseball, Nichols has also supervised the media relations campaign for a NASCAR Busch Series team. He also spent a season as a play-by-play announcer for a East Coast Hockey League team in Alabama, the Mobile Mysticks.
