Biographical Information

The uncle of Johnny Evers, Tom Evers played one game in the American Association in 1882 and 109 games in the Union Association in 1884; he tied for second place in games played in that short-lived circuit.

Tom was born in 1852 in Troy, NY, a hotbed of early baseball. He was 30 by the time he came to the majors, and 32 when he played in the Union Association. He was by far the oldest regular on the Washington Nationals in 1884.

A number of other major leaguers have been born in Troy, including Tom's nephew Johnny as well as King Kelly, who was born there five years after Tom.
