Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Tink Hence made his professional debut in 2021 after being selected in the 2nd round of the 2020 amateur draft by the St. Louis Cardinals. With the FCL Cardinals, he went 0-1, 9.00 in 8 games. In spite of the high ERA, his K/W ratio in 8 innings was very good at 14/3. In 2022, he pitched very well for the Palm Beach Cardinals of the Florida State League, even if his record of 0-1 in 16 starts did not immediately reflect this. Like many other pitchers who had pitched very little in recent seasons due to the COVID-19 pandemic, he was handled very carefully by his organization, totaling just 52 1/3 innings over those 16 starts, meaning he was never in line to earn a victory. His other stats were outstanding though, starting with an ERA of 1.38, 31 hits allowed and a K/W ratio of 81/15. On June 15th, he combined with two other pitchers, Jose Moreno and Roy Garcia on a 5-0 no-hitter against the Clearwater Threshers. He was named a Low-A All-Star by Baseball America, a league All-Star and the FSL Pitcher of the Year. After the season, he pitched in the Arizona Fall League where he was again an All-Star.

In 2023, he was given a little more rope as he slit the season between the Peoria Chiefs of the Midwest League and the Springfield Cardinals of the Texas League. In 23 starts, he was 4-6, 4.31, logging 96 innings, striking out 99 batters and walking 34. He was named to the National League squad at the 2023 Futures Game.
