Biographical Information[edit]
Ting-Jen Yeh pitched in the US minors and in his native Taiwan.
Yeh was drafted by the Brother Elephants in the first round of the 2005 CPBL Draft, but he refused to sign and then signed with the Boston Red Sox. Thus, the Elephants persuaded the league to create a "Ting-Jen Yeh Rule". If a player was drafted by a CPBL team but he then signed with a foreign team, the team which drafted him had his rights for 3 months, then he can joined a CPBL draft if he couldn't reach an agreement with the original team. Yeh made his pro debut in 2006 with the Lowell Spinners, going 1-0 with a 9.53 ERA; his other stats were even worse with 7 walks and 22 hits in 11 1/3 IP for a 2.56 WHIP and .400 opponent average. Boston promptly let him go, and he went back to Taiwan.
In 2007, the lefty was 1-4 with a 7.69 ERA. He was even worse in 2008 (0-1, 12.54) and 2009 (0-4, 9.17). In 2009, he did lead Taiwan's minors with 65 strikeouts (in 71 innings) but was otherwise uninspiring at 5-7, 5.32. The Elephants hurler improved to 2-5, 3.86 ERA in 2010 and his team won the 2010 Taiwan Series; yeh didn't appear in the series. He faded to 5-11, 5.15 in 2011, and he was third in the league in losses behind Ying-Chieh Lin and Chi-Wei Lin. He also led the league with 15 homers allowed. Yeh still attended the 2011 CPBL All-Star Game, and he surrendered 2 runs in 2 innings. As a reliever, Yeh had a 5.67 ERA in 48 appearances in 2012, and he notched 13 holds. He only pitched one game for the Elephants in 2013, then he was released and his professional career ended.
Yeh throws a slider, forkball and fastball (peaked at 92 mph).
Overall, Yeh was 8-27 with a 5.86 ERA, struck out 256 and pitched 339 2/3 innings in 7 seasons in the CPBL.
