Biographical Information[edit]

Tine Zaletel pitched for the Slovenian national team.

Slovenia's first European Championship was the 1995 European Championship and Zaletel started their opener on the hill, facing Dante Carbini and Italy in a mismatch. He allowed 8 hits, 4 walks and 9 runs (8 earned) in 2 1/3 IP; Domen Rotar took over in a 17-1 loss. He recorded Slovenia's first strikeout, against cleanup man Francesco Casolari. He also lost to Belgium's Joeri Loykens and Ukraine's Oleg Venger in a close 11-10 game against the tourney's other newcomers. He finished 0-3 with a 9.72 ERA, leading Slovenia in IP (16 2/3, 6 ahead of Samo Perko). He was third on the six-man staff in ERA, following Bogdan Jotic and Perko and his 5 K were one behind leader Perko. For the 1995 Euros, he was 4th in innings (between Samuel Meurant and Eelco Jansen), tied for the most starts (3, even with Andrey Bogatyrev, Venger, Jansen, Meurant and Frank Mathijs), trailed Venger by one for the walk lead (he had 13) and allowed the most hits (28, 4 ahead of Alex Amor), runs (27, 5 more than Amor) and earned runs (18, 2 more than Amor). [1]

He presumably was with Slovenia for the 1997 European Championship but rosters have not been located by researchers at this site. In the 1999 European Championship, Slovenia's last Euros (as of 2024), he was 0-1 with a 10.45 ERA, 4th on the 7-man staff in ERA and leading in IP (10 1/3, 1/3 more than Bogdan Arnez). [2]
